DIY: Wildflower Bouquet

I have been lucky enough to take my sister’s engagements as well as her bridals which has been the perfect way to involve me because it’s what I love to do. She was having a hard time getting ahold of her florist to get her bridal bouquet so I offered to make one.

This is the tutorial on how I made it. It is simple, bright, & delicate. I truly loved the way it came out. It was so easy to do! I promise anyone can make their own bouquets.

I began with two bouquets of wild flowers from Costco. They seem to have the best bouquets for the most reasonable price. I trimmed off the ends & put them in water until I was ready to use them.

I layed out all of the flowers in a row so that I could quickly grab whatever I wanted to add into the bouquet.

As I added flowers to my bouquet I tore off the leaves all the way to the bottom of the stem. So that it the stems had a clean look.

When I was done adding one section I would tape it off with floral tape. Floral tape is not sticky so you have to squeeze it together so that it will bond & not come apart.

Periodically I would look in a mirror or take a picture & see how the bouquet was coming together. Looking at it from these angles helped me decide what I did & didn’t like or where flowers needed to be added or taken away.

Continue adding flowers & taping it together until you feel you have the perfect bouquet.

Once you have completed your bouquet and floral tape it well to insure the flowers are being held tight.

I wrapped the burlap around the bouquet as tight as I could to help hold the flowers in place. I wrapped it down the stems & back up & tucked the fabric in the top once I was finished.

After that I added the lace but did not pull it as tight as I did the burlap. On the lace I also wrapped it down & back up.

After that I pinned down the bouquet with the sewing pins. I pushed them down into the bouquet not straight into it that way they didn’t stick out the other side & poke my sister. I got simple ones with pearl balls at the end. You can find them at any craft store.

Last step is to trim off the long stems. You can leave them as long or as short as you would like. You can even leave them all cut at different lengths. For this bouquet I wanted it all cut evenly.

That’s it. You’re done & have officially made your own bouquet!

It came out perfectly & looked so beautiful. The lace & burlap gave it the perfect rustic look.

I am by no means a florist. Although I wish I had enough talent to work with flowers all day everyday. Any florists out there? What tips would you add when DIYing your own bouquet?

Tollgate: Shelby & Austin

One of my oldest friends has ventured her way from the valley of Salt Lake City, Utah up to Tollgate to live in the most adorable cabin with her boyfriend & pups. I constantly saw pictures across her social media of her new home & it looked amazing. I asked her if I could come up & take some photos of them & she accepted.

I’m thankful she did… if she hadn’t I don’t think I would ever have discovered this little slice of heaven that is a part of Utah. It’s the most amazing little canyon. There are medows with wild flowers next to ponds with phenomenal backdrops of the mountains. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I drove into the canyon. It is stunning. I truly had been missing out on something incredible.

I’ve known Shelby for over ten years & as most of you know friendships tend to fade slowly after knowing one another for so long. But you know you have a true friendship when you can go so long, see one another again & it feel as though no time has passed. That’s how it is with Shelby. Every time.

It was my first time meeting her boyfriend & her furbabies & they are all amazing. I can’t wait for future adventures up in Tollgate with them. I can promise there will be more adventures & many more photos… but for now enjoy these! They’re perfect. Everything about them is perfect.

I can’t thank Shelby & Austin enough for letting me come up & adventure around with them. I’m insanely jealous that they get to call this place home. All of the photos were taken during a walk we took. Which just so happens to be the walk they take every night. I mean… come on… How lucky are they?

Isn’t it crazy that something so magical can hide from you for so long! What is your favorite location in the place you call home? Share it with me!
