You all know Lorin from a lot of my posts this summer. Her & I have been best friends for almost 10 years & still going strong. Our friendship has transformed into so much more over the past year. She has been there for me & the things I’ve gone through. She’s pushed me & motivated me while building my photography business. She truly has been an amazing friend & while she has been there for me through it all she has had her own challenges.

This last year for her hasn’t been easy. Really, it’s been far from that. But her strength through all she’s dealt with astonishes me. It’s amazing how far you’ll go to protect your child & she has done just that. She has gone to the  end of the earth to do all she can. She has lived her life day by day trying not to fear the outcome of the future. She wipes away her tears & loves Koiya with all the love she has.

Watching her this last year has proven to me anything is possible. Although I can’t compare her situation to me starting my own business, I can say that her constant positive attitude & outlook on life has really proved to me that what I am doing is possible… if I remain positive & remember that I can do it. She has helped me become a stronger person in so many ways because she is the strongest person I know.

I finally got to do some family photos of them. We did them up at Silver Lake which is a spot I’d been wanting to venture to. They came out perfectly. I seriously love these two so much!

I have this ongoing joke that she is my Anne & I am her Leslie. If you’ve watched Parks & Rec you’ll understand the personalities of the characters I speak of. If you haven’t watched it (like Lorin… I know)… well… you should. Lorin, like Anne is the reasonable one. She always is there to calm me down & make me think realistically. I’m a dreamer full of big ideas & plans…. I already have our summer 2016 planned out, don’t judge! We should basically play Anne & Leslie for real. But I guess all  I can have is the names… Lorin will be my Anne & I’ll be her Leslie. Forever.

Newborn Photos | Tessa Fonseca

DSC_0409

I am so in love with this newborn session I recently did with little Tessa. As I mentioned in my post last week I would be posting Tessa’s newborn photos today. I can’t get over how perfectly they came out. She was such a dream. She was just two weeks old when we did these photos & I realized why they say you should do your newborn photos within the first ten days… after the ten days they don’t squish up & mold as easily. It seems little newborns quickly realize that they can stretch out & have all the space in the world.

Even though I couldn’t form her into little Tessa balls the photos still came out so nicely. I used my living room with all natural lighting for these photos. One other thing I learned through this shoot was the way to face the little babe. I should have faced her toward the window so all the light was falling directly on her instead of the side of her. Even still, she’s a total dream & I am insanely happy with how they all came out.

Isn’t she the cutest thing in the world? I can’t thank Lisa & Tony enough for all of the photos they let me take of their little family this year. I can’t wait for all the photo adventures to come & to watch little Tessa grow into the beautiful little girl I know she’ll be.

Halloween Mini Session

2015 halloween mini session - cardcandy

I’ve throw together my first ever mini session. I’m officially in love with them. I get to use all my creativity & create something super fun & take pictures adorable kids. The adorable kids in the photos bellow are my kids… they make the perfect models.

As much as I love offering my services & wonderful experience that I provide when working with my clients I also love sharing my tips, tricks & the way I create what I love (& what I hope you love too). As you follow me & my photography career I will always be more than willing to share my experiences, secrets & ides with you that way you can learn from me, my mistakes & my accomplishments. With all that being said I’ll dive in & share how I created my Spooky Mini Session.

It was simple to put together. My house has nice natural lighting & beautiful flooring so all my studio setting photos are in my house. I hung up multiple layers of cobweb on my wall & cut out black bats using this template. I let Adalie pick out a few pumpkins from Trader Joe’s & set them in the background. I grabbed little bottles & the chest from Hobby Lobby & the hand bowl is from Target. Add some dry ice & you have the perfect Halloween setting. I got the template for my advertising on Etsy. I am no graphic designer so I always head to Etsy for anything that is beyond my skill level!

I’ve had countless photoshoots with kids this summer & have come to discover that they are happiest when they are doing something fun. You’ll get real & authentic moments from them if you give them something to do & capture all of the fun they’re having. What’s more fun than getting photos of your children being children?

I can’t wait to share all of the mini session photos with you all later on & I can promise you that this is just the beginning. Mini sessions are going to be a regular for me! For now enjoy my adorable little models making some magical potion that they probably hoped would turn me into a frog.

How cute are my models? They always do a great job with my constant photography needs. If you haven’t booked a session yet shoot me an email at ali@craftfoodlove.com & we’ll lock it down! If you feel like creating your own little photoshoot with your babes it’s easier than you think. Do it & hashtag your photos with #craftfoodlove so I can see all the adorableness!

Newborn Lifestyle | Fonseca

Lisa finally had her little beautiful babe, Tessa. I had the pleasure of doing her maternity photos a few weeks back  & am so happy I got to be apart of her lifestyle & newborn photos (which will be posted next week) as well. When I first got to Lisa’s I was truly almost in tears. Her little babe was this perfect little bundle of sweetness. She has the perfect little nose & chin. I could hardly handle how cute she was.

I got there right before the sun went down so luckily I got some nice natural lit photos of Tessa in her crib. The rest of them we missed our natural light opportunity but they all still came out so beautifully. Some I threw into black in whites to really capture the beautiful, raw moments that they shared with little Tessa.

I can’t thank Tony & Lisa enough for letting me be apart of their journey. I look forward to watching their family grow & many more years of photos to come.

Summer Lovin’

DSC_0243

I love summer but usually I am ready for fall & winter to roll in once September comes around. This year was different. I truly would have been delighted if summer lasted forever. We got to spend so many of our summer days with our best friends. It was truly the best.

Over Labor Day we finished up our summer with our final trip to Flaming Gorge. We had such a blast taking the kids out on the boat & enjoying our last moments of summer 2015. We watched fire works & their annual boat parade. We swam. We fished. We took it all in before we had to admit to ourselves that summer was truly over.

I didn’t get many photos on our trip but I got enough to show how much fun we had. I am already preparing the agenda for summer 2016. I hope Lorin & Matt are ready for another epic summer!

I know I say it all the time but I truly feel lucky to have all these amazing people in my life. My summers, weekends & days wouldn’t be complete without all of them. Our adventures our grand & there are so many more to come.

Bridals: Little Sister

Untitled-1

I can truly thank my sister for the journey I am currently on… Matt & I got a DSLR camera in May & I shot her engagements the same month. After that I fell in love with the art of photography. I have always been a creative person & photography has been a great mix of creativity as well as customer service. Two things that I am very passionate about.

My sister was generous enough to put her trust in me for her engagements as well as her bridals. Both were very big learning experiences for me. I had this big dream of heading out to some lavender fields for her bridals. So… my best friend/assistant for the night, little sister & I packed up & drove out to Mona, Utah to take lavender field photos. Lesson number one; the lavender fields are owned by Young Living & there is a $50.00 per hour fee to use them & they get cut down the end of July. Somehow I had no idea the fields were owned… you’d think the perfect lines in the lavender would have given it away. Lesson two; the sun goes away. Fast. I already knew this… but I got a firm reminder while we were driving around like crazy people trying to find a different spot to shoot. The light was fading quickly & the overcast skies were not helping my situation. Lesson number three; it’s either the sky or your subject. Because it was overcast I tried to really capture the beauty in the sky which made my sister too dark. I was bummed I didn’t realize this as we were shooting but what’s done is done & I did get amazing shots of her with the sky looking incredible.

We ended up stopping at a field that had a barbwire fence around it with one part fallen down & decided that was our spot. It was really hilarious seeing all three of us try to get over the fence, carry the dress over &  try not to die or get shot (Mel told us that there was a chance the people that owned the property might shoot us for trespassing). Luckily we all made it in & out safe.

We had so much fun on our little road trip to take these. Things didn’t go as planned but we made the most out of the situation & I learned an insane amount about photography & the style that I am striving for.

In the photo above Mel was totally sitting behind my sister & throwing her veil. It was hilarious & my sister was trying so hard not to laugh as I’m standing behind my camera busting up. I seriously love these girls so much & am so glad they’re apart of my life. Now, enjoy some wonderful selfies we took at the end of our adventure!

Book Review: The Great Gatsby

“Life starts all over again when it gets crisp in the fall.” – F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby

Everyone knows of The Great Gatsby. Most of us were forced to read it in high school… although I never did. I’ve never been one for forced reading. Ten years later & I’ve finally read one of the best books ever written. How did everyone let me miss out on such a phenomenal book for this long?

Gatsby is the most intriguing characters that I have read. He is charming, smooth & in my head looks just like Leonardo Dicaprio… who can complain about that? I’ve always been one for secretive men (I married one) which made me quickly hooked on Gatsby. As you get to know his character you learn that his charm is far more brilliant than you thought. His charisma seems to be toxic. I wish I could live a life with Gatsby in it.

I use the word magical for books often… because I always feel that books take you to another world. That they bring out some sort of magic in you from a time or place you haven’t yet/won’t experience. The Great Gatsby is just that. A magical tale full of love, carisma & tragedy. Set in the 1920’s you can truly feel the beauty from the era. The drinks flowing, dancing until dusk & fur coats. All of it incorporated in this book. You’re taken on a ride through an era all of us wish we could have lived through… & you get to live it with Gatsby.

If you’re like me & have yet to pick up this book & give it a chance I suggest you do. You’ll be taken on one incredible journey.

Now, here are some questions for you & your book club or if you’ve read the book drop a comment below & let’s chat!

Warning: These book club questions are spoilers. Don’t read ahead of you haven’t read the book!

1. Gatsby seems to hold a magical spell over everyone because of his secretive persona. Do you think he has something to hide?

2. Nick finally has one on one time with Gatsby. Is Gatsby what you imagined?

3. Gatsby finally gets the moment he’s been waiting for… to see Daisy. I could hardly handle the experiment I felt when it was happening. Gatsby the always cool, calm & colletive man looses his cool before seeing Daisy. Is this a sign of true love?

4. The book spirals out of control… I can hardly keep up with the magical craziness that happens. All I wanted was for Gatsby & Daisy to run off into the sunset together. But suddenly tragedy hits. How do you feel about Daisy killing her husband’s mistress?

5. I couldn’t imagine a world without Gatsby in it. If he wasn’t to die I don’t think the book could have ended. I could have read on & on. Therefor, it was the only way to put an end to the story. Do you agree with me? What would have been your perfect ending?

I hope every person in the world reads this. It is truly an incredible book & will forever be a classic masterpiece. Head over to Amazon & buy your own copy!
